Principal's Message

Anne Nicolaou

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to St Sava College, an independent Orthodox day school for girls and boys located on a pristine and secure property in Varroville, south-west Sydney. As Principal, I am impressed with the tremendous progress our school has made since opening its doors in 2021. Our Christian faith underpins all aspects of school life, where we continually strive to build positive relationships between staff, students and parents – fostering a strong and engaged community.

At St Sava College, students are nurtured in a supportive, encouraging and dynamic environment, where they quickly develop a sense of belonging and contribute to an altruistic culture. Our dedicated and hardworking teachers not only demonstrate unwavering commitment to their work but also possess the skill to instill in each child a sense of worth and the understanding that we are all connected.

We deliver engaging, inspiring, and challenging lessons, set high expectations, and foster self-discipline and intellectual curiosity. We offer a well-rounded education experience that not only develops and challenges our children academically, but also promotes age-appropriate spiritual growth and social and emotional wellbeing, allowing them to thrive and maximise their full potential.

Our parents generously contribute their time, talents, and resources. We extend our gratitude for entrusting us with the future of your children—allowing us to shape and nurture their minds, enrich their souls, and ignite the spark of lifelong learning within them. Prospective parents and donors are warmly invited to explore our beautiful school. Immerse yourself in the serene environment and consider joining us on the Path to Life.

Chaplain's Message

Fr. Rade Radan

It seems like only yesterday that we were adding the last licks of paint to walls and pushing seedlings into garden beds which surround the school building, yet here we are, preparing for the beginning of our fourth year at St Sava College. Seedlings turned to a billowing jungle of flowering plants and walls needing a fresh coat of paint in preparation for the class of 2024.

Many describe St Sava College as the greatest blessing bestowed on our South-West Sydney community. The land and location are breathtaking, the building comfortable and beautiful, the sense of security heartwarming, and the structure and content of the school day more than impressive. Yet it is the angelic expression on the faces of our students as they stream into school of a morning and joyously gallop out in the afternoon, that best express how truly blessed we are.

Of a wintery, misty early morning, principal and staff arrive to the welcome of kangaroos peering at them through the fog as they bustle into the building to make ready for the school day. The children file into chapel, the vigil lamp is lit, the fragrance of incense floating through the air and the chanting of hymns and prayers resonating through the building. There is a mystical quality about the place. Christ is amongst us! The day begins.

Who would deny their child the opportunity of growing up in an environment such as this? The enveloping bush and blue sky of a summer morning are the perfect setting for pondering the greatness of God and the beauty of His creation.

Welcome to St Sava College 2024!

Thank you Mick!

Badnje Veče (Serbian Cyrillic: Бадње Вече) is a Serbian Orthodox Christmas Eve celebration. Here's a brief history and overview: # History and Traditions 1. _Ancient Roots_: The celebration has its roots in ancient Slavic customs, which were later incorporated into Orthodox Christian traditions. 2. _Name Origin_: The name "Badnje Veče" comes from the Serbian word "badnjak," meaning "Christmas Eve" or "Yule log." 3. _Date_: Badnje Veče is celebrated on Christmas Eve, January 6th, according to the Julian calendar used by the Serbian Orthodox Church. # Traditions and Customs 1. _Blessing of the Badnjak_: A Yule log, typically from an oak tree, is blessed by a priest in a church ceremony. 2. _Singing and Music_: Traditional Christmas songs and hymns are sung during the celebration. 3. _Family Gatherings_: Families gather together for a festive meal, often featuring traditional Serbian dishes. 4. _Gift-Giving_: Gifts are exchanged, especially among children. 5. _Charity and Kindness_: The celebration emphasizes the importance of charity, kindness, and generosity. # Modern Celebrations Badnje Veče is still widely celebrated in Serbia and among Serbian diaspora communities around the world. The tradition has been preserved and passed down through generations, blending ancient customs with Christian values.

Today we celebrate the feast day of St Nicholas the Wonderworker. In collaboration with St Nicholas Mission, our students show love and generosity to others, following in the footsteps of Sveti Nikola, by donating toys to our Annual Christmas Appeal. Thanks be to God! 🙏🏻

Enrol Now

We are pleased to announce that enrolment applications for Year 7 in 2026 are now open. However, we encourage parents to seriously consider transferring their children to Years 4 & 5 as early as 2024. Such a move should be considered for two reasons:

  1. It is in the child’s best interest to consolidate their learning and enrich their literacy and numeracy skills at St Sava College Primary in preparation for High School.
  2. Children who complete their primary education at St Sava College are guaranteed a place in Year 7.

To complete an ENROLMENT APPLICATION click here. An application fee of $100 must be received for your application to be considered complete. Upon receipt, written confirmation will be sent to the applicant. If you have not received a response from the College within 14 days of applying, please contact the College at registrar@stsava.nsw.edu.au.
